Wisdom Healing (Zhineng) Qigong: Teachings by Master Mingtong Gu

Based on the work of Dr. Pang Ming

This is a remarkable effort from Master Mingtong Gu -- Wisdom Healing is a workbook, a treatise on the benefits of Qigong, and a rare pool of wisdom to dip into -- there's something for readers of every level, from the mildly curious to the most serious practitioner. If there really is a template for health and happiness, this may be it!

Zhineng Qigong, or Wisdom Healing, is a form of Qigong, the ancient healing art practiced in China for over 5,000 years. This newer form, developed by Dr. Pang Ming, combines aspects of the traditional Qigong with aspects of Eastern and Western medicine to achieve healing on all levels of being. Dr. Pang opened a healing center in China in the 1980's that became known as the world's largest "medicine-less hospital." The Center achieved world-wide renown for its ability to heal the most seriously ill patients by teaching them the practice of Wisdom Healing Qigong. The author, Master Mingtong Gu, trained with Dr. Pang at the Center and witnessed these profound healings. He then returned to America to found The Chi Center and the Wisdom Healing Foundation.

According to Master Mingtong Gu, Wisdom Healing is using the mind to direct chi to achieve harmony, or complete healing at every level. This comes about by reconnecting with the energy and consciousness of the universe, which leads to wisdom and integration. The workbook includes exercises to promote health and longevity, and methods for building a sustainable Qigong practice. Taken from actual workshop classes and retreats, Wisdom Healing follows a progression from the simplest exercises to more adept practices. Along the way there are interesting anecdotes of healings, great tips for visualization, and "scientific insights" that offer some research about the measurable benefits of a sustained practice. Indeed, the author sometimes refers to the energy work of Qigong as a "technology" for achieving healing, and the latest research seems to back that up.

Master Mingtong GuWisdom Healing is a book that rewards study and re-reading, although I believe even the most cursory implementation of the basic exercises will cause a shift in energy for the reader and activate healing. The book states that the vision of Wisdom Healing Qigong is to "Heal Ourselves, Heal the World" and, with one dip of your toe into the Ocean of Energy out there, you will know this is possible!
