As Proprietor and Co-Founder of Pure Food and Wine, Sarma Melngailis has harvested her many talents, limitless energy, and varied life experience towards realizing her vision: presenting raw food and the raw lifestyle as accessible, uplifting, and sexy, thereby increasing the appeal of living healthier to the largest possible audience for maximum overall positive impact on people’s quality of life.
Jan 29, 2009

As New York’s premier raw foods fine dining restaurant, Pure Food and Wine utilizes organic and seasonal plant foods to create a truly special dining experience. The term raw refers to keeping all of the ingredients under 118 degrees to preserve the food’s natural enzymes and nutritional integrity. Raw foods nourish, strengthen, energize and vitalize the body and mind.

Pure Food and Wine’s unique take on this type of cuisine elevates raw-vegan food to a new place among high-end restaurant concepts. The restaurant was featured twice in New York Magazine’s “Top 100 Restaurants” and 4 years in a row in Forbes magazines’s list of “All Star New York Eateries” with three stars, in the company of the most highly rated restaurants in New York City. As Forbes wrote in the 12/24/07 issue:

‘Raw’ and ‘vegetarian’ are not adjectives usually associated with haute cuisine, but at Pure Food and Wine, as if by magic, such ingredients are turned into exquisite and exotically delicious offerings.
