Ed Pilkington, the Guardian's New York correspondent."W ith more than 6,000 boats and almost 35,000 people already deployed in the Gulf of Mexico, an army of celebrity reinforcements last night hurled themselves at the rescue mission surrounding the Deepwater Horizon oil   spill... Proceeds from the event will go to three organisations: United Way, a coalition of charities, to help Gulf coast families with emergency and long-term aid; the National Wildlife Federation, which is cleaning birds and protecting breeding grounds, and the Nature Conservancy, for the recovery of sensitive ecosystems such as salt marshes and oyster reefs."

An Ecological Disaster: Polluting the Waters of Life by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee"If we are to reclaim a real relationship to life and to our planet, we must listen to the real story that is being told. It is not just a story of a deep well disaster happening in the Gulf. It is about how our present civilization is causing the waters of life to be polluted and how at present we cannot stop it. And this disaster is taking place all around us and also in our own souls. Only if we listen to life will we know how to respond."

Kevin Costner May Hold Key To Oil Spill Cleanup by Louis Sahagun, Los Angeles Times

The Cove: Sundance Film Exposes Japanese Dolphin Slaughter in Grisly Footage by Clayton B. Cornell

The Cove"23,000 Dolphins are slaughtered each year in a hidden cove in Taiji, Japan. Each year, the Japanese government covered it up... The Cove exposes an atrocity of unimaginable brutality. Reclaiming the Ancient Tradition of Tree Wrapping by Jan Johnsen

"The tradition of wrapping tree trunks or adorning branches of special trees is a visual statement that says, “We honor this tree and respect its vital presence.” It is often done with fiber rope, natural ribbon, or fabric and it is used to highlight unusual trees, as a supplication and/or protective measure. Tree wrapping has been practiced for thousands of years in countries across the world. In Japan, it has been elevated to an art form and derives from the Japanese Shinto belief that all natural forms are imbued with spirit. "

Growing Food in the City by Kim Matthews
Kim Matthews"Urban Agriculture  is the social movement to create space to allow people to grow their own food in or near their city. Some of the produce is marketed, while other projects, such as community gardens, are designed to give participants the opportunity to grow food for their individual needs. The concept is based around the idea that cities are stronger when people are able to feed themselves through their own investment and actions. A garden doesn't grow in isolation, but it is one piece of a larger, interconnected food system."
