It's that time of the year again: we turn the clocks forward, we count the days until spring arrives, and we clean out those old, unneeded items in our closets -- the closets in our physical space, yes, but also those in our emotional and spiritual worlds as well.  Like the last of the winter die-off in the garden, or the old empty mason jars that have grown cobwebs in the pantry, we need to clean up or clean out those old habits, attitudes, and emotions that no longer serve us.

On a metaphysical level, this is a period of high energy and great healing - a time to revisit old patterns that you want to correct (and stop repeating!) or to put your dreams to work and skip like a stone from one lifetime to another following a theme that needs your attention.  I look at my hours of sleep as a time of "night school" and I know that if I pay attention I will learn exactly what I need to add or take away in my life.   What should be allowed to die a natural death, to be plowed under in order to fortify a new crop?  Like the mason jars, what needs to be cleaned out and what deserves to be preserved?  What needs cultivating and what new seeds should I plant?

As the last of the winter's snow falls gently outside my window I look forward to the promise of crocuses and new growth in the Spring.
