HEALTH, EMOTIONS AND INFLAMMATION

There is increasingly more solid data that wellness and illness, feeling go(o)d versus feeling lousy or "stressed," is mediated by our emotional states which are molecules in our “bodymind” which form a psychosomatic network regulating all aspects of our physiology.

While our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions have been proven to influence the progress of chronic diseases (such as cancer, arthritis, and obesity), increasingly scientists are recognizing that toxins which enter our body provoke states of inflammation whose intensity are influenced by our emotional states. Dr Pert will also describe evidence linking addictions to spiritual yearnings beyond the biochemical.

HOLISM IN EVOLUTION

The concept of holism, introduced by Jan Smuts in 1926, began its initial mention in medical literature three decades later, burst into psychology in the 1960’s and finally reached the outer limits of medicine in 1978. It has not yet reached the inner circle of conventional medicine. Eight decades after the concept originated, with nominal innovations each decade, the essential essence of holism remains somewhat like the Holy Grail--how do we find and implement the sacred in health care?
