Wheat Belly
Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD Review by Cheryl Shainmark
“Wheat Belly” is a real eye-opener, addressing some of the biggest problems in health today — obesity, adult diabetes, heart disease and more — all get a critical reassessment after Dr. Davies identifies what may be the biggest culprit: wheat. Apparently, the bread and goodies that we eat today are not the same as what our grandparents ate, and whatever small nutritional benefit we get now has been undermined in the last several years by widespread genetic manipulation of the wheat plant.
The author outlines the detrimental ways that the wheat plant has changed over the last several years, and makes a compelling case for totally eliminating all wheat products from our diets. He describes the many benefits, including reversing many common ailments and “diseases” thought to be untreatable in the past. According to Dr. Davis, besides the bigger concerns of obesity and Type II diabetes, going wheat free can help every aspect of the body from the skin to our brains. In fact, the only thing longer than the list of benefits is the list of hidden sources of wheat and wheat products. “Wheat Belly” is a real ‘go to’ book for those looking to improve their diet or get relief from a number of issues.
