Merryn’s Musings by Merryn Jose

Mirabai of Woodstock, NY

I regularly visit Woodstock, NY, a town I love, and one of my first stops is always to Mirabai, my favorite bookstore. It is located in the heart of Woodstock, just across from the Bread Alone Bakery. The staff are so helpful and friendly, and I love it when I get to catch up with the owner, Audrey Cusson. She is a treat, with an enthusiastic and sparkling personality that makes me want to spend hours in her treasure trove.

Tell Me a Story: Stirring up Cellular Memories with Meditation

I have been meditating for over fifteen years now and find it an essential part of my life. Many have written about the substantial physical and emotional benefits, and while I’ve certainly found that to be the case, too, I’ve also noticed that there is a component of releasing “cellular memories” that is rarely addressed. People shy away from phenomena that are not so easily explained, but whether you call it “cellular memories,” “past lives,” or releasing “old patterns,” I have found that there is something extraordinary happening that also brings welcome relief to the body and the spirit.

Nutrition
The Unlikely Vegan by Phil Shainmark

My name is Phil. I’m 37. A husband and a father of 2 kids. My son is 7 and my daughter is 4. We live in Las Vegas. I’m told I’m a big guy at 6’1”/265 lbs. I ride a Harley (though I prefer Honda or Yamaha) and help my father-in-law with his motorcycle business. I have tattoos from my finger tips to the side and back of my head. I’m a gun owning Pagan anarchist who loves meat and cheese. But, after a whole bunch of soul searching and an AWESOME conversation with my cousin Gary, (who is one of the most honest, caring, cool guys I’ve ever met) and his awesome girlfriend, I just couldn’t allow that hypocrisy in my life anymore.

The Cosmic Hologram by Jude Currivan Wins 2017 Silver Nautilus Award

We are thrilled to share the news that Dr. Jude Currivan, a great friend and contributor to Merlian News, has recently won the 2017 Silver Nautilus Award for Science and Cosmology, for her wonderful book, The Cosmic Hologram. As we wrote in our book review last year: “Dr. Currivan has a remarkable ability to synthesize a wide variety of detailed scientific input and then extrapolate from that data a lucid theory of an “informational universe” that may bridge the gap, or reconcile, the theories of relativity and quantum physics.

Research Mapping Emotions Shows Strong Mind-Body Connection

Love makes us warm all over, and now scientists are creating body maps to prove it. A team of scientists in Finland has used a topographical self-reported method to reveal the effects that different emotional states have on bodily sensations. After five experiments and over 700 participants from Finland, Sweden and Taiwan, who reported where on their bodies they felt different emotions , the scientists discovered surprising consistencies. Their research findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

Mirabai of Woodstock was founded as Mirabai Books in 1987 in the town of Woodstock, NY by Anne Roberts. After years of service to the community, Anne has departed Woodstock for the mountains of Vermont. Mirabai’s new owners, Jeff Cuiule and Audrey Cusson, moved up from New York City seeking a simpler, more meaningful way of life in the tranquil countryside of Woodstock. They are dedicated to carrying on the store’s mission — to provide spiritual and holistic knowledge and guidance to individuals trying to improve their lives and the world they live in.
