Qigong Masters & Building the Immune System
During this time of uncertainty amidst the corona virus, there has been a feeling of helplessness while we wait: wait to leave our houses, wait to develop a vaccine, wait to get the “all clear” signal so that we can resume our lives, our jobs, and the economy. It sometimes feels like there’s nothing we can do to help the situation. I believe that one of the best ways to use this enforced quiet time and help ourselves is to build our imune systems so that we are better able to resist or lighten the effects of the virus. To that end, I have increased my usual daily qigong practice to include routines from a few of these wonderful Qigong Masters.

A Different Kind of Earth Day
Stay at home, shelter in place, practice social distancing. Earth Day this year is Wednesday, April 22, and for the first time in 50 years, there will be no parades, no gatherings to plant trees, no groups picking up litter on the beach. If you go to the official Earth Day website, www.earthday.org, the first page features a world map and the words “Register a Digital Event.” The precautions for the Corona virus, or Covid-19, will make celebrating the day a challenge this year.

Good for You Desserts by Priscilla Warshowsky
In our house, we eat desserts that are home made. Since I do the cooking/baking and I am not a chocolate fan, I use carob instead which I find has a rich and delicious taste. I also like to experiment with different kinds of flours and have found that almond, oat, and cassava ones are the best. I do use coconut flour but sparingly as it is dense and will make the cake or cookies heavier. For sweetener, I use organic maple syrup and for an extra zing, almond and vanilla extracts. Melted coconut oil makes everything moist.

Research Mapping Emotions Shows Strong Mind Body Connection
Love makes us warm all over, and now scientists are creating body maps to prove it. A team of scientists in Finland has used a topographical self-reported method to reveal the effects that different emotional states have on bodily sensations. After five experiments and over 700 participants from Finland, Sweden and Taiwan, who reported where on their bodies they felt different emotions, the scientists discovered surprising consistencies. Their research findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

Self Care Tools for Better Mental Health by Dylan Foster
Dylan writes, “Are you always taking care of someone else? In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, many of us fail to properly address our own needs. Instead, we get lost in endless to-do lists for work, side projects, and caring for our friends and families. Although these are all worthwhile things to put effort into, you also need to think about yourself!”

Boost Your Immune System with the King of Mushrooms
Agaricus is often praised as the “Mushroom of God” or “The King of Mushrooms” due to its health supporting benefits. Wildly popular for years in South America and Japan, the rest of the world is now catching on to this amazing mushroom that supports the immune system, cellular health, and blood sugar levels. WebMd writes: “Agaricus mushroom contains chemicals that might improve the body’s use of insulin and decrease insulin resistance in people with type 2 diabetes. Some developing research also suggests it might be able to strengthen the immune system, fight tumor development, and work as an antioxidant.” It is also used to boost the immune system and for physical and emotional stress. It is now being used for treating the following health issues:
