Counterclockwise: How the Mind Can Reverse Aging
Merryn writes, “Some time ago I read a fascinating study about reversing the effects of aging. In 1979, Dr. Ellen Langer, a groundbreaking social scientist, brought together a group of elderly men and had them recreate a week of life in 1959. It seemed that when placed in a setting that replicated the days of their youth, their health improved, and they even looked younger! The men’s muscle strength, dexterity, posture and vision improved, while ailments such as arthritis diminished. It was quite astonishing that all this could happen after only one week. Years later, in 2009, Langer published a wonderful book, Counterclockwise, that tells the story of these men as well as other research she has found that shows how we can turn back the clock on our bodies. It turns out that the mind is the key.”

Turning My Deck into Paradise
It’s that time of the year again, when I start to fantasize about sitting out on my deck, surrounded by plants and cats, sipping a cold drink and enjoying a warm breeze. I usually get into decorating my little outdoor space, but this year I plan to really turn my deck into Paradise with more plants, more herbs, nicer cushions, fairy lights, and candles. Have I missed anything?
Eye Health
The Effect of Stress on Our Eyes & Health by Marc Grossman, OD LAc
Chronic stress can, over time, overwork the adrenal system resulting in fatigue and poor circulation. In turn, fatigue and poor circulation limit the ability of the body to deliver essential nutrients to the eyes. The retina and eye are extensions of the brain. It is therefore conceivable that “ophthalmologic” diseases may actually also be “brain” diseases in disguise, both of which depend on the vascular system.

The Health Benefits of CBD (Cannabidiol)
Medical Marijuana has been getting a lot of press lately as more and more states pass legislation legalizing it’s use. What’s also gaining attention is the rising use of cannabinoid oil. In a recent article Dr. Mercola writes, “The cannabinoids in cannabis — cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — interact with your body by way of naturally-occurring cannabinoid receptors embedded in cell membranes throughout your body. In fact, scientists now believe the endocannabinoid system may represent the most widespread receptor system in your body.

No GMO Shopping Resources
As more and more of us focus on healthy lifestyles and locally sourced ingredients, the public outcry for non GMO foods gets louder. Of course, we’d all love to have a great garden planted with heirloom seeds, but that’s not always possible. Fortunately, the resources for shopping and avoiding GMO products are growing.
